Tec Rec 40
The PADI Tec Rec 40 course is where you make the transition from recreational to technical diving. It's a great way to get started because it's the first subdivision of the full PADI Tec Diver course and bridges the gap between no-decompression diving and deep technical diving with decompression. You gain experience and begin to build the knowledge and skills you need to continue your technical diver training. You'll be certified to do decompression diving down to 40 metres/130 feet.
To enroll in a Tec Rec 40 course you must be:
PADI Enriched Air Diver with at least 10 dives using enriched air to depths greater than 18 metres/60 feet
Be a PADI Deep Diver or demonstrate at least 10 dives to 30 meters/100 feet
Be at least 18 years of age and have a minimum of 30 logged dives
The Tec 40 course consists of three knowledge development sections, three practical application sessions and four training dives. You will learn about:
Risks and responsibilities of technical diving
Technical diving equipment, correct assembly and configuration
Gas planning, oxygen limits and decompression planning
Diving techniques and emergency procedures, such as handling continuous flows, manifold leaks and gas depletion situations

Tec Rec 45
The PADI Tec Rec 45 course is the second part of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver program. You'll extend your depth limit to 45 metres/145 feet and learn to plan and conduct repeated decompression dives using a single decompression tank. You'll don full technical gear, either back or side. You'll also conduct accelerated decompression dives using EANx or pure oxygen. This is a course where you'll rise to the challenge and make the commitment to become a technical diver.
To enroll in a Tec Rec 45 course you must:
Be a PADI Tec 40 diver
Become a PADI Rescue Diver
Have a minimum of 50 logged dives, with at least 12 with enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 6 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
Be at least 18 years old
Your Tec 45 training consists of three knowledge development sections, three practical application sessions, and four open water dives.
You will expand on what you learned in the Tec 40 course, focusing on the operation and maintenance of technical equipment and associated problems. You will continue to refine gas planning by calculating accelerated decompression stops. In addition, you will learn to think like a technical diver.
You will use technical equipment including wings and double bottles plus an additional decompression bottle, or you can use a single configuration sidemount technique.

Tec Rec 50
The third part of the complete PADI Tec Deep Diver program is Tec Rec 50.
As a Tec 50 diver, you show that you have developed competence as a technical diver and possess the skills to dive to a maximum depth of 50 metres/165 feet. You know how to make accelerated extended decompression stops using up to two gases.
It is not easy to reach this level and getting your Tec 50 certification opens the doors to deeper diving expeditions.
To enroll in a Tec Rec 50 course you must be:
Be a PADI Tec 45 diver
Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with at least 20 with enriched air deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 15 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
Be at least 18 years old
The Tec 50 course includes two knowledge development sections, three practical application sessions and four open water dives.
A major focus of this course is mission planning and execution. You will also learn more about handling emergencies and how to think like a technical diver.
You will use full technical gear and can use a technical sidemount setup , plus two decompression bottles.
Your Tec Deep Instructor can also introduce you to the use of trimix on the final open water dive.
